It has been so crazy lately. I'm still recovering from my trip last week to Northern Va and North Carolina. I have tons to post. So last week, I attended Hickory Chair University. What's that you ask? The Hickory Chair Company happens to be one of my preferred vendors. Every month they invite designers, retailers, students, even bloggers to attend a two day training seminar conducted at their facility in Hickory, NC. The intent is for attendees to gain an in-depth education about their products and company. I have to tell you, it was impressive. In my quest to Green up my business, I had targeted HC as a resource simply because they were one a few companies fabricating their product in the US. I was very happy to learn that the level of sustainability they are operating under currently is far more than I had anticipated. In fact, it is far more than many that are at the lowest membership level in the Sustainable Furnishings Council. This is something they need to start shouting from the rooftops. Over the next few days, I'll do a post on what I found to be the most noteworthy. Topics will include, Case goods...They Aren't Created Equal. Okay, I'm going to have to digress here. For the record, in the biz, we call wood products (ie chests, tables, armoires, etc.), case goods. My husband always tells me I need to explain this term. He has explained that even though he has heard the term several times and knows what it means, he still envisions a case of beer. I'm also going to cover Upholstery... The Anatomy of a Sofa, and A Comfortable Sofa Bed...this isn't an Oxymoron.
On the first evening, we went to their showroom at their facility for a catered dinner and chance to check out some of their stuff. I immediately zero'd in on the Blue pieces in the showroom. I think I'm definitely on to something.

Hi Kristin. I am catching up on my blog reading. I have never been a blue person but recently found myself using blue as my punch color in my living room (replacing any red traces). I have to stay that I love it! Blue, green and camel ... a great combination.

I would never have considered myself to be a Blue person, either but now I have it all over my house. I can't believe how many Blue rooms are in my portfolio too.
