The timing of this question is ironic. This reader writes:
I'd like to know what your thoughts are on having a TV in the bedroom. My husband wants a plasma or LCD mounted on the wall and I don't think that it will look nice. As a designer what do you think?
You readers and your controversial questions. Y'all are killing me. This question happens to be ironic because for the first time ever in 16 yrs of marriage my Husband and I won't have a TV in our bedroom in this house. At least we are going to try it out. We've been sleeping in the guest bedroom because my new bed for our room hasn't come in yet(it did ship Monday, YEAH!). We just don't have any place to put a TV in the new room. So back to the question. I'm all about the pretty, but one of my very few pet peeves is a space that doesn't function. I know the medical research says a big "no" to the TV in the bedroom. The reality is, if you want a TV in the bedroom, I'm gonna give you one. I'm gonna make it as pretty as possible though. Ideally, I'd like it to be hidden but a flat panel mounted over a beautiful piece of furniture works too. Another option is to hide a flat panel behind drapery. They are making them 1 inch deep now so you have lots of options. I'm dying to hear if you have a TV in the bedroom. So I'm doing my first poll.

I love a beautiful bedroom, but I will always have a TV in there too! I have to get my HGTV fix while I get ready in the morning! :-)

I need 1 place to escape technology. I think people are a little t.v. crazy these days. TV in the office, kitchen, bonus room, bedroom, the car, outside!!! Is there really anything good on t.v.?

The only time my husband and I have had a TV in the bedroom was when our living room was deep in remodeling and completely non-functional. He and I both agree that there should never be a TV in the bedroom if it can be helped.

Love the example you show! I DVR some of my shows on the bedroom TV. Jim and Lauren don't like my design shows :) Can't wait to see your new bed!

You know how much people complain these days about lack of sleep, bad nights, insomnia, etc? I swear a good part of the problem is television in the bedroom. I got rid of the tv in my bedroom due to lack of space and I'm sleeping better than I have in years. Try it!

We've never had one in the bedroom. Had one in the bathroom though. These days, I'm less interested in having a TV anywhere.

I don't like them because its so distracting and would keep me up instead! That display with a glass dresser and white set sure is gorgeous though.

I read somewhere that a tv in the bedroom drastically reduces .....errrr....intimacy. So, we keep our bedroom for sleep and other forms of entertainment. Can I put that in a comment?

Sure you can make that comment, Candace. I won't tell you what my husband's suggestion was for the "No" comment in the poll. I have read it too. Without changing this from an Interior Design blog to something entirely different, I'm with ya.

I just love that mirrored console. I have always loved mirrored furniture and if you have to have a t.v. in the bedroom, that is by far the most elegant way to do it.
Personally, I don't care for a t.v. in the bedroom because it makes it less serene (just my opinion) however I don't have any issues with people who do. I did have to break that rule with my disabled son, who has a t.v. on his nightstand since he can't sit up too well.
